6 Ways to Avoid Common Botox Blunders
Botox is a safe and effective way to get the face you want, but there's a few things you should do (and avoid doing) before your Botox shots.

Why We’re Living in a Botox Moment

Why is Botox popular, and not just at Sculpt Spa?

Since it is a non-invasive, cost-effective, and much safer alternative to surgery, it has become readily accessible to the public in recent years. It has a powerful effect on aging, muscle spasms, pain, and more.

We answer questions about Botox all the time:

·        What does Botox cost?

·        Botox vs dermal injections

·        What are the side effects of Botox

and more.

One thing that is beyond questioning: Botox is likely to remain as popular as ever in the years to come. The shots are growing in demand from various age groups, including those 20-29 years old. Why?

Botox injections are famous for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. They’re also used to treat conditions such as neck spasms (cervical dystonia), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), an overactive bladder and lazy eye. Botox injections are also known to help prevent chronic migraines.

How Botox Shots Work

Botox injections use a toxin called onobotulinumtoxinA to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving. This toxin is produced by the microbe that causes botulism which is a type of food poisoning. It was discovered that this toxin in a small amount and isolated to muscles, has very useful functions. It is safe, FDA approved and highly tested.

Botox was the first drug to use the botulinum toxin. Botox injections block certain chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals that cause muscles to contract. The beautifying use of these injections is to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes.

6 Botox Blunders to Avoid

The internet, and possibly your friends and family, may be concerned with Botox stories and opinions. People are worried about having a bad Botox experience.

See our blog post on avoiding a bad Botox experience!

While Botox is safe and effective, and non-invasive, and you can return to your routine immediately after treatment, there are some activities that are considered “blunders” that you may want to avoid right away.

Here are six blunders to consider not doing:

1.     Getting a massage within the next few days after
You do not want to risk displacing your Botox and getting it in other areas than were intended, You Sculpt Spa esthetician carefully targets specific areas and muscles in your face and a massage could disrupt that strategy. Don’t massage for a week following treatment until your botulinum serum has kicked in fully and any need for touch-ups have been assessed and performed. Massage would include jade rollers, gua sha, microcurrent devices or other face sculpting tools.

2.     Vigorous exercise on the day of treatment
Vigorous exercise increases blood flow throughout your body. You can see this when you get off a treadmill–your face may look red and flushed.  Blood flow is excellent for skin and your overall health but increased blood flow immediately after Botox may cause some serum migration to surrounding facial areas. This potential migration puts you at increased risk for untoward side effects such as drooping eyebrows and eyelids. Wait at least 4 hours for moderate exercise or using our infrared sauna at Sculpt Spa. That gives the Botox time to settle into place. For vigorous exercise, it is recommended that you wait 24 hours after your treatment. Once those 24 hours are up, you are free to jump back into your full regimen.

3.     Drinking alcohol before and after your Botox shot
Alcohol is a vasodilator affecting the relaxation and expansion of blood cells. Due to this effect, many experts recommend avoiding it for up to 48 hours after your service. Most recommend not drinking the day before, and the day after. This helps prevent bleeding and bruising.

4.     Ignoring your milk allergy
Cow’s milk protein is used to make Botox. You should not receive Botox if you have a specific allergy to albumin. If you don’t have that specific allergy but are lactose intolerant – fear not. Botox will not affect your lactose issues.

5.     Going to a Botox party
Apparently there are parties popping up in which the attendees receive Botox injections. The casual environment and the lack of expertise of the Botox administrator there are simply not safe. This is the easiest way to get too much injected, or have it injected into the wrong facial muscles. Either of those scenarios will give you disastrous results. Call your Sculpt Spa expert for a consultation and appointment instead, then party in a few days to celebrate your great results.

6.     Taking aspirin, naproxen and ibuprofen the week before treatment
These medications have blood thinning properties which can affect your bleeding and bruising. Experts advise avoiding them for the week prior to treatment, and for a few days after.
